Cystic Fibrosis

Hello All,
I have created this blog in order to educated others about the disease Cystic Fibrosis. I am not diagnosed, but my sister, Sarah whose 25 years old, is.
Symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis appeared when Sarah was first an infant. Cystic Fibrosis is an autosomal recessive disease. You might be wondering what an autosomal recessive disease is. Well to answer your question, it is a disease that caused as a result of a mutation of two recessive genes [one from each parent] on an autosome. This disease can skip a generation, that is why my parents and I were not affected but it just so happens that Sarah was. About 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with this illness.
Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease that particularly effects your secretory glands, including the glands that make mucus and sweat. Normally, mucus is slippery and wet, However, with Cystic Fibrosis, the mutated gene tells the body to make thick and sticky mucus. The mucus builds up which makes it easy for bacteria to grow and causes problems in the several of the body's organs to function properly, especially in the lungs. Humans affected with Cystic Fibrosis have problems with nutrition, development and digestion, this disease gets worse and worse as time goes by. Cystic Fibrosis can result in early death. I just sometimes wish there was a cure in life for everything, especially the ones that affect your life the most.
